Hi, my name is Henna. In this first blog post I’ll introduce myself, reflect on the benefits of blogging and outline my English learning goals.
After graduating from high school, I decided to pursue a degree in music, violin to be exact. Music has always been one of my biggest passions, but the uncertainty of financial stability made me reconsider my career path. So, I started applying to universities, searching for a new direction. I must admit that my decision to study information processing science was quite impulsive. At the time, I felt pressured to move forward quickly because I felt I couldn’t take another gap year at my old age of 22.
Even tho I’ve been unsure about my studies, I’ve started to see the possibilities this field offers. I would like to be involved in developing systems that improve people’s lives. Building systems for healthcare or education interests me, since they have such a direct impact on people’s lives. Building new and improved technology for these fields can make a real difference, whether by improving patient care, helping organizations run more efficiently or making learning more accessible. Cybersecurity has also begun to intrigue me. Since digital threats are increasing day by day, protecting people’s information and privacy is an important matter.
Blogging is an excellent tool for learning. Writing about a topic forces you to think about it more deeply, organize your thoughts, and explain concepts in a clear way. It’s also great for self-reflection, allowing you to see your progress over time. It is also a great platform to showcase your skills and connect with colleagues.
My goal for this course is to resuscitate my English skills. Having graduated high school a long time ago, I’ve definitely noticed a decline in my writing and speaking especially. I need to work on improving my vocabulary, especially technical terms that will be beneficial during my studies. I’m sure keeping this blog will help me re-awaken and develop my writing skills. Consistent writing will help with refining my grammar, structuring my thoughts more clearly, and expressing myself better.
I’m excited about the opportunities in this field and hope to contribute to meaningful and ethical projects in the future. Blogging will remain an important tool, helping me grow my English skills along the way.
Hi! Really interesting to read about your path from degree in music to information processing. I can relate to being unsure what to study from a interest standpoint. I also agree with your points on the benefits of blogging. Keep up the good work!
VastaaPoistaAs someone who also was - at first - similarly interested in studying music, but has since felt compelled to study something more financially reliable, I can relate a lot to your writing here. Computer Science is probably the most interesting thing that I can study while also working towards a reliable/lucrative career in the future. Glad to see relatable perspectives.
VastaaPoistaHi Henna! Your post was really relatable and fun to read. I loved to hear, that impacting positively on peoples lives with your work is important to you. I feel the same way, and I am also thinking about working in cybersecurity some day. I hope that information processing science works out for you!
